Farewell

A Farewell is an act of parting and departure. The relation between man and land in Islamic traditions has 3 levels, the highest is that the land is like a soul. The land my father purchased two decades ago is very sentimental to our family. Throughout these years, I have been documenting my visits, and many cherished memories happened.  Trees that have flourished, beloved animals, and some gatherings with the rest of the family.

However, as what happened in the 70s when all the changes happened to the farms of Eastern Province  The news of losing the farm was met with many mixed emotions as I understand the economic significance to the region's progress; it’s challenging to let go of these deep connections I have formed.

All along, photography grew up with me. Some of the photographs were made on film that was never developed, and some with my first camera.  This project was inspired by the leaves that had fallen from the trees. I started to take them and preserve them before the farm was gone. Besides photography, I recently started to learn printmaking e.g. Cyanotype and other alternative photographic processes to incorporate it with my practice.
